St. Louis Hawken Rifle Features:
I am not all that "handy", but I decided I wanted to build this kit for my first muzzle loader after watching a build video of this kit on YouTube. I bought a few simple tools, stain and oil for the stock, and a cold bluing kit for the barrel. The kit required a little fitting work, then some sanding and staining. In addition to the bluing, I used Brass Black to antique the brass parts. The gun looks amazing! Even better, it shoots darned good! I had to learn the basics of muzzle loading, too, since I am a beginner. But, this rifle delivers and I am confident hunting whitetail deer at ranges of 120 yards or less. If I use conical bullets I might be able to even extend that. And, this thing is just fun to shoot. I've never had a high-end muzzle loader, or a modern variation (I preferred a more old-school side lock), but this rifle is darned nice. Assembling it myself for the finish I prefer was a bonus.
