The trigger is also locked in this position. - Position 3 (Fire) is the ready to fire position. In this position, the safety is off and the NitroBolt® can be fired.

- The Firestick™ system which provides several safety benefits.
The Firestick™ system provides the best-in-class safety.
The Firestick™ is factory-manufactured, and precision filled so you’ll get consistent loads every time.
Provides safe removal of the unfired charge from the breech and can quickly be removed when necessary.
The Firestick™ system eliminates the risk of accidentally overcharging your NitroBolt®.
Users can be assured that when they are using the Firestick™ they are using a safe, correct load for their NitroBolt®.
The Firestick™ is an encapsulated powder charge and is impervious to moisture allowing for consistent, reliable, accurate shots.
No. For safety reasons, FireSticks are designed for one-time use and cannot be reloaded.
Loading the NitroBolt® is as easy! Always check to make sure your safety is in the middle position (loading/unloading) and is not in the fire position. Your muzzleloader should be pointed in a safe direction.
1. Your safety should be in the middle position. Open the bolt to verify the chamber is empty.
2. Load your projectile through the muzzle with your ramrod. Push it down the barrel and seat it on the shelf within the barrel. You’ll feel the bullet stop with resistance. This provides a consistent starting point every time.
3. Prime your Firestick with a 209 muzzleloading primer and insert the Federal Premium® Firestick™ into the bolt chamber. Close the bolt slowly and the Firestick will be pushed into the barrel. The bolt should lock into place. Move the safety into the safe (locked) position.
If you are using a muzzle brake, Traditions® recommends using their skirted or full bore Smackdown® bullet series like the Smackdown® ELD-X or the Smackdown® MZX. These type of bullets will perform best when using a muzzle brake. If you are not using a muzzle brake, these bullets are still great choices as well as the Smackdown® Carnivore™, Smackdown® XR™, or Smackdown® Bleed™ models. You will get an excellent gas seal since the Smackdown® series is sized correctly for Traditions® bore diameter. The Ridgeback™ Sabot that comes with the Carnivore™, XR™, and Bleed™ series is a 4-petal, ribbed sabot which additionally helps provide a tight gas seal.the NitroBolt® is compatible with other brands of muzzleloader bullets.
While any brand of muzzleloader-specific or 209 type primers could work with the FireStick system, Traditions® recommend the Federal Premium® 209 Muzzleloading Primer.
Unloading an unused bullet from the NitroBolt® is easy. Be sure the Firestick™ has been removed from your NitroBolt® through the chamber area. Remove your bolt completely from the firearm. Next, take your ramrod and thread on the NitroBolt™ Bullet Unloading Jag accessory. Insert the ramrod jag-end first into the empty bolt area of the NitroBolt® and push the unused bullet out through the muzzle.
The Federal Premium® Firestick™ is being loaded with Hodgdon® Triple 8 powder. The Hodgdon® Triple 8 powder burns very efficiently and greatly reduces the amount of unburnt powder and residue in the NitroBolt®. Due to powder being in the capsule, there is no powder touching and igniting directly inside of the barrel. The bullet seats on the shelf, not on top of powder. All this means the FireStick™ system generally reduces the traditional “powder ring” black powder shooters have come to recognize in the barrel after repeated firings. A powder ring left unclean can lead to barrel corrosion. With the FireStick, there is less or no powder ring to clean, so risk of barrel corrosion is also less.
Hodgdon® Triple 8 is not designed for water-based clean-up. Using a cleaning solvent provides an effective and efficient job cleaning. Additionally, since the bolt can be disassembled and cleaned within minutes, this make cleaning the NitroBolt® very simple.
Yes, Traditions® recommends using an oil-based cleaner to clean the NitroBolt®. Hodgdon® Triple 8 (which is in the Firestick) is not designed for water-based clean-up. We recommend our Firestick cleaning series which includes pre-saturated patches and bore solvent.
No. The NitroBolt® does not have an interchangeable barrel option and barrels cannot be purchased to be put on previously existing muzzleloaders.
Yes, the NitroBolt® muzzleloader currently requires a 4473 and is not considered an antique firearm.
